STAYING AWAKE ~
AS YOU SHIFT FROM EGO ATTACHMENTS TO YOUR SOUL'S PURPOSE

by LINDA STAR WOLF

One of the most difficult things to do is to stay wide-awake during the death of your old ego attachments and the birthing of your own soul's divine purpose

Ego attachments are developed early in life as a protection mechanism. They help us adapt to our surroundings so that we survive and get our needs met. The ego is not in charge of our life's purpose, however. In order to be truly happy we must sooner or later begin to rely on something higher in ourselves - which leads to the death of our ego attachments.

It is difficult to stay awake during this death. Even if we sincerely believe we have a sacred reason to be on the planet, and have a unique role in God/Goddess' creation, doubt will surely raise its head when the ground beneath us begins to shake. There is a natural tendency to run for the shelter of what we know - even if it is not what we really want. The unknown future can feel too threatening and our fear can easily sabotage our hopes and dreams. Rather than embrace the void we often opt for safety, or what we define as safety. The irony is that what may seem safe actually may be destroying our lives and hurting what we most love.

When we make the shift from ego to soul we often encounter interference from those closest to us. It is understandable that those we are most closely connected to - partners in love, work and play, our children and employers, etc. - are resistant to this shift. We have created predictable patterns that help others know what to expect in their connections with us. This may change considerably when one begins to listen to the soul's longing. It is important not to judge those who do not understand and equally as important not to allow their judgments to interfere with our decisions. We must remember that they still see us from their ego point of view and are - in fact - mirroring our own ego's perception. They have not had time to go through their own process of accepting the changes that are affecting them on various levels. The discomfort will pass in time and if the relationships are worth keeping and the loving connection is real these relationships will not only survive but also improve. It is important to trust love. All things that are not love will fall away.

Even after you make up your mind to let your "soul be your pilot" as you let go of old ego attachments, the pull will still be strong to revert back to the familiar rather than move forward to the new. You will need support, soul friends, soul tools, and a faith and trust in something bigger than your ego's point of view in order to put down firm roots on new ground.

It saddens me to see people in the middle of major life changes falling back to sleep. While I know that on some level it is a part of the process it still disturbs me, especially when someone's life and well-being is threatened by a return to the old situation, addiction or pattern. This disappointment has led me to work more diligently in discovering better methods of healing and ways to remember the soul's true purpose.

The Shamanic Breathwork Process ™ still remains the most powerful soul tool I know to genuinely kick-start the process of shifting from the ego's agenda to the soul's perspective. This highly transformative method of self-discovery can cut through months, or even years, of talk therapy. The Shamanic Breathwork Process ™ allows one to wake up, or to have heightened awareness, through a natural breath-induced altered state. As inner wisdom is accessed the answers to what have felt like impossible questions can become easily accessible. This is the easy part … staying connected to the wisdom takes much more work. Through releasing the old patterns by using more soul tools such as focused body work, chakra attuned music, mandala art work and group process, the breath work experience begins to integrate into one's life.

The witnessing of our journey, both in the process group and in the weeks to come, by fellow/sister journeyers is one of the most powerful influences in keeping the process alive and well, one day at a time. It takes time for the new seed to take root in our lives. Winds of doubt, disappointment and the skepticism of others easily uproot the new seedling. In time, as the soul's voice becomes stronger than the ego's fear, a deepening will occur, which some have called serenity. An unshakable faith that there is indeed something in the universe - whatever name we call it - that loves us deeply and has a divine plan for us. We begin to know deep down in our hearts and bodies that our lives are not a mistake. This must surely mean that WE ARE HERE ON PURPOSE!

The Bigger Picture begins to be our daily reality, and the ego becomes the servant of higher love and wisdom. MAY WE EACH BE GRACED BY THIS LARGER REALITY IN OUR LIVES ON A DAILY BASIS!
